What is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a cannabinoid– a chemical component of the Cannabis plant, that binds to Endocannabinoid (ECS) receptors found in the Central Nervous System in our bodies. Since CBD has a structure very similar to endocannabinoids-which our bodies produce naturally, they are able to transmit signals to our cells that affect the body in different ways to achieve balance. There is evidence of (ECS) receptors in the digestive system, glands, skin, connective tissue, immune system & nervous system. Because of the variety of benefits to different body systems and ways to administer/use/take CBD it is important to understand how different applications work and pros/cons to each form, be it tinctures, topicals, vapes, edibles, smoking, or capsules.

The Cannabis plant has many other cannabinoids (over 100 discovered so far), such as CBG, CBN, and THC as well as terpenes. All of which have unique health benefits and can provide relief from a variety of ailments. When multiple cannabinoids & terpenes are used or blended together, they create a synergistic reaction called the entourage effect. Interestingly, not only does CBD not get you high or have a psychoactive effect, but it actually counteracts the “high” felt by THC. Because CBD has shown to provide SIGNIFICANTLY more health benefits than other cannabinoids, it has been the subject of medical research in both medical marijuana & hemp studies and is utilized in both in Full Spectrum (whole plant-with or without THC) and Isolate (CBD chemical isolated from other cannabinoids & terpenes) forms.

Herb ‘N Oil only uses the isolate form of CBD in their products in order to ensure clean drug tests, safety for children and pets. It also offers a safe and effective alternative for those who struggle with mental health including anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, ASD and OCD. Those with an allergy to the cannabis plant can safely use isolate based CBD products as well since any residual plant particles are removed during processing (unlike full & broad spectrum products). This is also true for people who struggle with MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome).

Although higher doses of isolate CBD is needed than a full or broad spectrum product when taken internally due to the lack of the entourage effect, it is still highly effective- contrary to popular belief. If you have tried CBD in the past, and it didn’t work for you, this may be why. If you, like many have benefitted from this phenomenal plant medicine, or are interested in retailing our products (either in store or online) we’d love to hear from you!
